Parameters - Column with Pattern

These parameters apply exclusively to selected Column with Pattern objects.

This page details the settings for the "Column with Pattern" object in Embird Studio NEXT, a feature that enables users to enhance standard satin or column stitches with decorative textures. It outlines the specific parameters for applying and customizing these patterns, including pattern selection, scale adjustment, and random shift. Additionally, it explains the "Stretch" function for adaptive designs that follow the width of the column - useful for creating lace-like effects - and the "Twist Count" setting for achieving a spiraling aesthetic.

Pattern is the texture of the cover stitches

The pattern defines the texture of the top cover stitches.

Most parameters for this object type are identical to the standard Column parameters, with the exception of the following:

  1. Pattern - Defines the texture of the cover stitches. This functions similarly to the pattern setting in a Fill object. Users can create up to five custom patterns via Main Menu > Gadgets > Fragment Editors > User's Patterns.
  2. Random Shift - Offsets stitch penetrations randomly to create a more natural or less uniform texture.
  3. Scale - Adjusts the size of the applied pattern.
  4. Stretch - This toggle activates an adaptive pattern, meaning the texture is scaled proportionally to the width of the column at any specific point. This is particularly effective for digitizing lace-like structures.
  5. Twist Count - Available only when Stretch is enabled, this setting rotates the pattern along the path to create a twisted appearance.
Adaptive pattern on column

Adaptive Pattern with Scale factor = 50% and Twist Count = 5.

Adaptive pattern on column

Adaptive Pattern with Scale factor = 66% and Twist Count = 0.

Adaptive pattern on column

Adaptive Pattern with Scale factor = 125% and Twist Count = 0.

In the three examples above, the pattern automatically adapts to the varying width of the column. These examples were generated using the following predefined patterns:

1. Vertical Lines, 2. Bricks, 3. Parquets.

An adaptive pattern may also be combined with the Random Shift option to create a softer, more irregular appearance:

Vertical Lines used as an adaptive pattern with Scale factor = 50%, Twist Count = 4, and Random Shift = 1.5mm.

Note: A Column with Pattern can be further modified by a Carving object to add additional structural texture.

Please note that the Column with Pattern object does not include the Make Cover Stitches option, Strips fill mode, or Multilayer fill mode.
