Running Embird with Larger Controls

Embird Embroidery Software Tutorial

This tutorial shows how Embird runs automatically with larger controls (200% compared to normal size) on high-resolution displays, e.g., tablets. These controls are easier to access by thumb on touchscreen displays. It is still possible to run Embird with normal-sized controls on these displays. Also, it is possible to run Embird with larger controls on any display. All three ways are explained below.

Note: It is possible to use Embird on tablets with Windows 8 or 10. Find more in the tutorial Running Embird on Tablet with Windows 10

1 - Run Embird by double-clicking its icon on the Desktop.

2 - Embird will start and it automatically switches to a mode with larger controls on a high-resolution display (Picture No. 1). The color boxes and fonts are larger, as well as all the buttons. There is a scroll bar below the buttons allowing you to scroll to controls that are not shown on the display.

1. Manager window with larger controls

3 - Click the "Editor" menu to switch to the Editor (Picture No. 2). The handles for resizing designs are larger, allowing you to resize with your thumb if running on a tablet. Also here, all buttons are larger and there are scroll bars allowing you to scroll to other buttons.

2. Editor window with larger controls

4 - Select the "Insert > Text" menu to create some lettering (Picture No. 3). The grid with characters and also the buttons are larger. Tap any character in the grid to add it to the text. Tap empty space in the grid to add a space to the text.

3. Insert Text window with larger controls

5 - Select the "Insert > Cross Stitch Design" menu to check the controls in the Cross Stitch plug-in (Picture No. 4). Also here, all controls are larger to make them accessible by thumb on a tablet.

4. Cross Stitch window with larger controls

6 - If you want to always run Embird with larger controls on any display, do not launch it using the icon on the Desktop. Click Windows Search instead to find other shortcuts (Picture No. 5).

5. Search Windows for other shortcuts

7 - Type in the text "large controls" (Picture No. 6). Windows will search for this text and show results.

6. Search for "large controls" shortcut

8 - Click the found result to launch Embird with larger controls. You can also right-click (or long-tap) the result to access the popup menu (Picture No. 7). It is possible to pin this shortcut either to the taskbar or to Start.

7. Pin result to taskbar or to Start

9 - If you want to run Embird with normal-sized controls, and the Desktop shortcut launches Embird with larger controls, use another shortcut. Type in the text "normal controls". Windows will search for this text and show results (Picture No. 8). Right-click (or long-tap) the result to access the popup menu to pin this shortcut either to the taskbar or to Start.

8. Search for "normal controls" shortcut
