Custom Settings of Underlay

This page provides a guide for Embird Studio NEXT users on how to customize underlay settings for individual embroidery objects, overriding the global defaults. It details the parameters available in the Underlay - Advanced Tab of the Parameters window. It is specifically focusing on settings for Center, Edge, and Zig-Zag underlay types, allowing for fine-tuning of stitch properties for enhanced embroidery results.

How to Override Global Underlay Settings

Underlay stitches generated for solid objects such as plain fills, autocolumns, columns, and borders are controlled by a set of parameters. Some of these parameters are local, meaning they are individual for each vector object. Others are global (overall). Global parameters can be overridden using the controls described in the following text.

Both global and local parameters are accessible via the Parameters window. The controls that override global underlay settings are located in the Underlay - Advanced Tab. They are arranged into several groups according to the type of underlay.

1. Center Underlay

Inherit from Overall Settings : This switch turns on and off the overriding of global settings with local settings.

Min. Length : This is the approximate length of the shortest stitches in the center underlay. Short stitches occur in sharply curved sections of the underlay path.

Max. Length : This is the approximate length of the longest stitches in the center underlay. Long stitches occur in straight sections of the underlay path.

Center walk underlay is not available for Fill - Plain mode.

2. Edge Underlay

Inherit from Overall Settings: This switch turns on and off the overriding of global settings with local settings.

Min. Length: This is the approximate length of the shortest stitches in the edge underlay. Short stitches occur in sharply curved sections of the underlay path.

Max. Length: This is the approximate length of the longest stitches in the edge underlay. Long stitches occur in straight sections of the underlay path.

Offset Mode: This defines the meaning of the next parameter, the Offset. The Offset value is either a percentage (relative to the automatic optimized value) or absolute.

Offset: This defines the inner gap between the object's contour and the edge walk underlay.

Edge walk underlay is not available for Column - Multi Layer mode.

3. Zig-Zag Underlay

Inherit from Overall Settings: This switch turns on and off the overriding of global settings with local settings.

Min. Length: This is the approximate length of the shortest stitches in the zig-zag underlay. Short stitches occur in sharply curved sections of the underlay path.

Max. Length: This is the approximate length of the longest stitches in the zig-zag underlay. Long stitches occur in straight sections of the underlay path.

Offset Mode: This defines the meaning of the next parameter, the Offset. The Offset value is either a percentage (relative to the automatic optimized value) or absolute.

Offset: This defines the inner gap between the object's contour and the zig-zag underlay.
