Dialog Window for Files and Folders Browsing
This dialog window is utilized for opening, saving, importing, and exporting files. It also serves as the interface for browsing folders during various software operations.
Layout
1
Folder Navigation Control (Breadcrumbs). Use this control to set the root folder. Searching traverses through all subfolders and files within the root.
2
Folder list. This list is linked to the navigation controls (1) and facilitates faster directory browsing. The items in this list are subfolders of the current directory (the final segment in the folder chain).
3
List of files located within the current folder.
4
Preview of the file (16) selected in the file list (3). If a preview is unavailable, this panel remains hidden.
5
Combo box for file extensions. This dropdown contains the file formats and extensions relevant to the current dialog window. These options vary depending on the operation; for instance, the formats available for importing a raster image differ from those available for saving a design as a stitch file.
6
Text field for the file name. Enter a file name or select a file from the list (3). This file will be processed upon the successful closure of the dialog.
Note: It is possible to paste a path from the clipboard directly into this box. The program will then navigate to that specific file or folder. This is useful when copying a path from an external application to browse it within Embird.
7
Clear file name button.
8
Vertical splitter #1. This splitter bar includes buttons for rapid access to favorite folders.
10
Confirmation button. Closes the window to proceed with the pending operation (e.g., open, save, or merge). The icon on this button changes to reflect the specific operation in progress.
11
Cancel button. Closes the window and terminates the current operation.
12
Share file button. This button is visible only when the selected file (3) can be shared via the operating system's sharing panel.
13
The Current folder as selected in the navigation control (1) and folder list (2). The arrows signify that clicking this item will navigate to the parent folder.
14
The pop-up menu button. Clicking this button opens a menu for folder operations.
15
Favorites buttons. These allow for an immediate switch to any saved favorite folders. Marking or unmarking favorites is managed through the pop-up menu (14).
16
Selected file. The file currently highlighted in the list (3) is displayed in the preview panel (4), provided a preview is available. The file name is also automatically entered into the text field (5).
17
The pop-up menu button. Clicking this button opens a menu for file operations.
Selecting multiple items
In specific contexts, multiple files can be selected by holding the Ctrl (Cmd) key on a hardware keyboard or by using on-screen check boxes. The check box selection mode for the file list (3) is enabled via the pop-up menu (17).
This mode facilitates the selection and deselection of multiple files using a mouse, stylus, or touch input without the need for a keyboard.
Simple and Detailed mode
The file list pop-up menu (17) provides an option to toggle between simple and detailed display modes for file information.
Favorite Folders
Favorite folders act as location bookmarks for your storage media, allowing for rapid navigation to frequently used directories.
While browsing, a folder can be marked as a favorite using the Folder Navigation Control (Breadcrumbs) (1) or the pop-up menu (14).
The pop-up menu (14) also provides options to unmark or clear a folder from the favorites list.
All dialog windows share a common set of favorites. Please note that there is a defined limit to the number of favorites allowed. Favorites are persistent and remain saved between software sessions.
