1 - Run Embird and click the "Editor" menu to switch to the Editor window.
2 - Open the design that you want to save for the Janome #5 Hoop. To open a design, click the "File" menu and choose the "Open" command. Please note that you will probably have to split this design into several parts.
3 - Click the "Hoop Size" button, or select the "Options > Hoop Size" menu (Picture No. 1).
1. Select the "Options > Hoop Size" menu
4 - Choose the "Janome #5 - Vertical" or "Horizontal" option (Picture No. 2). The typical position is vertical, with eleven overlapping sections. The horizontal position works the same way as the vertical, but the parts are automatically rotated by -90 degrees when loading/saving from/to the hard disk.
2. Choose the right hoop
5 - You can now see that the design exceeds the size of some of the eleven overlapping sections (red, green, blue, yellow, ...) (Picture No. 3). Notice the red rectangle drawn around the design icon at the right side of the screen - it indicates that the object is out of the section. Therefore, the design must be split into several parts. Use the "Freehand Select Mode" button to select the stitches you want to cut out (separate). More information regarding splitting is available in the Interactive Freehand Splitting tutorial.
Note: It is possible to skip the following steps and continue to step 8. Embird can automatically split the design in such a way that each object fits a section. However, sometimes it is better to split the design manually to obtain an optimal result.
3. Notice hoop sections
6 - Use "Freehand Select Mode" to select the stitches you want to cut out (separate). Once you have selected the area you want to separate, it will be displayed in red (Picture No. 4). Click the "Split" button to split the design (to separate the red selection).
4. Split design
7 - You can see the design parts (1 and 2) in the "Object Order Bar" at the right side of the screen (Picture No. 5). Each part now lies completely in one of the eleven hoop sections - part no. 1 fits the top hoop section, and part no. 2 fits the bottom hoop section of the hoop.
5. Design parts fit hoop sections
8 - Use the "File > Save As" command to save the whole design to a file on your disk. In the "Choose Format" dialog box, choose the Janome .SEW format. In the second dialog box that appears on the screen, you can choose the file name of the design being saved. Each part will be stored in a separate file, and Embird will automatically add the extension from "_1" to "_11" to the name you specify. This extension indicates the position in the Janome #5 Hoop. Position no. 1 is the top hoop, and position no. 11 is the bottom hoop.
