This tutorial explains how to create an applique cutting file in Embird. You can create an .FCM or .SVG file that is slightly bigger than the stitch file to allow for easy tack down when using a cutting machine.

Another way available for the Brother ScanNCut cutting machine (model 550) is to change the color of the applique piece outline to the special "Applique Material" color and save as a Brother .PES or Brother .PHC file. The cutting machine will recognize this color and use it for cutting. The ScanNCut machine must be upgraded to version 1.31 in order to read PES and PHC files.
7 - Move the mouse pointer to the color box which contains the applique piece outline and click the right mouse button for the popup menu. Select the command "Special Colors (Brother) > Set to Applique Material Color" (Picture No. 5).
5. Change applique piece outline color
8 - Save the design to either a Brother .PES or Brother .PHC file using the "File > Save as" menu.
