How to use Embird for Windows on Linux (Debian)

Embird Embroidery Software Tutorial

Embird can be installed on Linux Debian by utilizing Wine, a compatibility layer that enables Windows software to run on Linux systems. The process involves installing Wine via Terminal (apt install wine), downloading the Windows installer from the official website, and executing it using the wine command.

1 - In Linux Debian, press Super key (also known as the Windows key) to open the application menu. (Picture No. 1)

3 - Launch "Terminal". (Picture No. 3)

4 - To install Wine, we need to have admin priviliges. Type in "su -" and then enter the password of your user profile. (Picture No. 4)

4. Enter admin mode to install Wine

5 - Install 32-bit version of Wine with the following command: sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && apt-get upgrade && apt-get install wine32:i386

6 - Press Enter and wait for the computer to finish installing it.

7 - Close the Terminal window when it is done. (Picture No. 5)

8 - Open a new Terminal window from your application menu. (Picture No. 6)

9 - Use the Terminal to open your Downloads folder where the Embird setup file is saved. Run the 32-bit Windows setup file using Wine to start the regular installation wizard: WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine32 WINED3D=opengl wine ~/Downloads/embird2025b1204_604_x86_setup.exe (Picture No. 7)

7. Install previously downloaded 32-bit version of Embird software for Windows

10 - Follow the final prompt to create a desktop shortcut so you can open the app easily: WINEPREFIX=~/.wine32 WINED3D=opengl wine "$HOME/.wine32/drive_c/Program Files/EMBIRD32/EMBIRD.EXE" (Picture No. 8)

8. Create shortcut for launching Embird easily

11 - You will now see the Embird icon inside your normal Linux Application list. (Picture No. 9)

9. Embird shortcut appears in the Application list

12 - Click the icon to launch Embird and begin your embroidery work! (Picture No. 10)

10. Launch Embird by clicking its icon

Note: Please note, that application Wine for Linux is not developed nor supported by Embird team. Also, because Embird is natively Windows application, it is not quaranteed that all portions of program run smoothly in Wine on Linux.
