Embird Cross Stitch - Menu Bar

Embird Embroidery Software Tutorial

Menu Bar is located at the top of the screen (Picture No. 1).

1. Main Menu Bar

Use commands in the File menu to open, save, print, and compile Cross Stitch designs:

Compile and Put into Embird Editor ... Compile the Cross Stitch file into stitches and put the result into the Embird Editor.

New ... Create a new document. Use this command to clear the work area.

Open ... Open an existing Cross Stitch project file.

Open Recent ... Lists the last nine documents you closed.

Merge ... Merge a design into an open Cross Stitch project.

Save ... Save the Cross Stitch project file with its existing name.

Save As ... Save the Cross Stitch project file with a new name.

Save As Fill Pattern ... Save the Cross Stitch project file with a new name as a fill pattern. Find more details here.

Print Template ... Prints the active document.

Print Template without Texts ... Print the active document without texts to save space on the vellum sheet.

Print Preview ... Displays the active file on the screen as it would appear printed.

Print Setup ... Selects a printer and printer connection.

Design Notes ... Give a name to your cross stitch design (or a comment, e.g., the magazine and the issue number used for creating the design).

File Summary Info ... Edit summary information of the file, i.e., Title, Subject, Author, Category, Keywords, Revision Number, and Comments. This feature is only available on volumes formatted with NTFS.

Send in Attachment of E-mail ... Send the active document through electronic mail.

Load Color Palette ... Load a color palette from a .CPF file.

Save Color Palette ... Save a color palette to a .CPF file.

Exit ... Exit Embird Cross Stitch and return to the Embird Editor.

 

Use commands in the Image menu to import and manage the background image.

Import ... Import a background image. .BMP and .JPG images are supported.

Import Recent ... Lists the last nine images you imported.

Acquire (Scan) ... Scan a background image using a TWAIN scanner.

Delete Image ... Delete the background image.

Rotate or Mirror ... Rotate or mirror the background image.

Set Size ... Set the size of the background image.

Dim Image ... Dim the background image to make it less vivid.

Autodigitize Crosses from Image ... Autodigitize crosses from the background image. This command will show a dialog box on the screen allowing you to specify the size of the cross stitch design and to reduce the number of colors. The point in the bottom left corner of the image defines the background (transparent) color. Find more details here.

 

Use commands in the Chart menu to import a chart as the background image.

Import ... Import a chart into the background. .BMP and .JPG images are supported. Choose the image file containing the chart. The dialog box will appear on the screen, allowing you to align the ten-square grid with the chart grid lines. There are three red marks in the top left corner of the chart. Position mark no. 1 to the upper left corner of the ten-square grid, position mark no. 2 to the upper right corner of the ten-square grid, and position mark no. 3 to the bottom right corner of the ten-square grid. Then click the Align Grid button and check the results of the alignment. In case the red grid follows the chart grid, click the OK button to insert the chart into the work area. Otherwise, click the Undo Alignment button to revise the position of the red marks. Find more details here.

Import Recent ... Lists the last nine charts you imported.

Acquire (Scan) ... Scan a chart using a TWAIN scanner.

Delete Chart ... Delete the chart in the background.

Dim Chart ... Dim the chart in the background to make it less vivid.

Print ... Print the chart in the background.

Print Preview ... Display a print preview of the chart in the background.

Print Setup ... Selects a printer and printer connection.

Auto-digitize Crosses from Chart ... Use this command to create a cross stitch design automatically from the aligned chart in the background.

 

The Edit menu provides commands to undo, redo, cut, copy, paste, delete, and select areas of crosses.

Undo ... Undo the most recent action.

Redo ... Reverse the effect of the most recent Undo command.

Cut ... Put the selected area of crosses on the Clipboard.

Copy ... Copy the selected area of crosses to the Clipboard.

Paste ... Insert the crosses from the Clipboard into the work area.

Select All ... Select the entire work area.

Deselect ... Cancel the selection.

Inverse ... Inverse the selection.

Delete ... Delete the selected area of crosses.

Duplicate ... Duplicate the selected area of crosses.

Auto Repeat ... Repeat the selection.

Corner ... Place selected objects in each of the 3 other hoop corners.

Mirror ... Mirror the selected area of crosses either vertically or horizontally.

Center ... Center the selection on both axes or only on the horizontal/vertical axis.

Rotate ... Rotate the selected area of crosses.

Smooth ... Smooth edges in the selected area by adding 3/4 stitches.

Clear Isolated Points ... Clear isolated points in the selected area.

Clear Thin Lines ... Clear thin lines in the selected area.

Clear Hidden Back Stitch Lines ... Clear back stitch lines lying under other back stitch lines in the selected area.

Set Size ... Set the size of the selected area of crosses.

Change Color ... Change the color of the selected area of crosses.

Convert Back Stitch Lines to French Knots ... Convert back stitch lines in the selection to French knots.

Set Cross Layers ... Set the number of strands of thread to use for regular crosses in the selection.

Set Mini Cross Layers ... Set the number of strands of thread to use for mini crosses in the selection.

Set Horizontal Cross Layers ... Set the number of strands of thread to use for horizontal crosses in the selection.

Set Vertical Cross Layers ... Set the number of strands of thread to use for vertical crosses in the selection.

Set Back Stitch Layers ... Set the number of strands of thread to use for back stitch lines in the selection.

Set French Knot Diameter ... Set the diameter of French knots in the selection.

Set French Knot Thickness ... Set the thickness of French knots in the selection.

 

The commands on the Text menu choose how the text in your image is displayed.

Left Align ... Aligns text to the left; the cursor moves right as you type.

Center Align ... Aligns text to the center; the cursor stays stationary as you type.

Right Align ... Aligns text to the right; the cursor moves left as you type.

Install Font Temporarily ... Temporarily install a selected TrueType (.ttf) or OpenType (.otf) font.

Font ... Chooses the font from the list of TrueType™ and OpenType™ fonts installed on your PC.

 

Use the View menu to zoom in/out of the work area, to hide the background image or crosses, and to check the design in the Sew Simulator.

Zoom In ... Increase the zoom factor.

Zoom Out ... Decrease the zoom factor.

Actual Size ... Return the view to its natural size.

Crosses as Squares ... Draw crosses as squares.

Crosses as Crosses ... Draw crosses as crosses.

Grid ... Show/hide the ten-square grid.

Image or Chart ... Show/hide the background image.

Crosses ... Show/hide the crosses.

Back Stitch Lines and French Knots ... Show/hide the back stitch lines and French knots.

Rulers ... Show/hide the rulers.

Main Toolbar ... Show/hide the main toolbar.

Design Toolbar ... Show/hide the design toolbar.

Status Bar ... Show/hide the status bar.

Color Palette Bar ... Show/hide the color palette bar.

Sew Simulator ... Simulate the sewing of the design at a chosen speed (max. 1000 stitches per second).

Sew Simulator - Selected Only ... Use this command if you only want to simulate the sewing of the selection.

3D Preview Show ... 3D photo-realistic preview of the design.

3D Preview - Selected Only ... Use this command if you only want to display the 3D photo-realistic preview of the selection.

 

Use commands in the Insert menu to insert outlines for the cross stitch design into the Cross Stitch editor.

Insert Outline ... Insert an outline around the design boundary.

Insert Outline - Selected Only ... Use this command if you only want to insert outlines around the boundary of the selection.

Insert Outline Around Each Color (1 Color) ... Insert an outline around each color in the design using the Outline color.

Insert Outline Around Each Color (1 Color) - Selected Only ... Use this command if you only want to insert outlines around each color in the selection using the Outline color.

Insert Outline Around Each Color (Multi-Color) ... Insert an outline around each color in the design using the color of the area.

Insert Outline Around Each Color (Multi-Color) - Selected Only ... Use this command if you only want to insert outlines around each color in the selection using the color of the area.

Insert French Knot Outline (1 Color) ... Insert a French knot outline around each color in the design using the Outline color.

Insert French Knot Outline (1 Color) - Selected Only ... Insert a French knot outline around each color in the selection using the Outline color.

Insert French Knot Outline (Multi-Color) ... Insert a French knot outline around each color in the design using the color of the area.

Insert French Knot Outline (Multi-Color) - Selected Only ... Insert a French knot outline around each color in the selection using the color of the area.

Simple Outline Text ... Create simple lettering consisting of back stitch lines (outlines) only.

Font Engine Text ... Create lettering using TrueType and OpenType fonts installed in Windows.

Calendar ... Insert a calendar, using either TrueType/OpenType fonts or Simple Outline Text.

Clock ... Insert a clock, using either TrueType/OpenType fonts or Simple Outline Text.

 

Use commands in the Options menu to specify the unit measurements.

Measure in millimeters ... If ON, distances are measured in millimeters.

Measure in inches ... If ON, distances are measured in inches.

Erase with Right Mouse Button ... If ON, a right mouse button click erases crosses instead of drawing with color no. 2.

Design Properties ... Change cross stitch design properties - cross width and height, number of thread layers, add outlines, add trimming codes, add tie on/off stitches.

Preferences ... Change preferences, e.g., size of the work area.
