Embird Alphabets are collections of pre-digitized lettering sets specifically designed for use within the Embird software. Unlike the Font Engine, which converts system fonts dynamically, these alphabets are created letter-by-letter by professional digitizers to ensure optimal stitch quality and pathing.
This module provides 42 manually pre-digitized embroidery lettering fonts in a resizable format. Each alphabet contains multiple versions of every character, optimized for various size ranges and for nearest-point connections between letters. Consequently, they are especially suitable for producing small lettering. Embird facilitates efficient workflow with Alphabets, including the ability to arch and shape text labels.
Note: Alphabets is an auxiliary module that runs in the background, providing its core functionality to the main user-facing modules.
Hand-Digitized Quality: Every glyph is manually digitized by an expert. This ensures that start and end points, stitch directions, and connections are optimized.
Specific Size Optimization: Although scalable, each alphabet is designed with an optimal size range. They generally perform best between 4.5 mm and 75 mm (1/6" to 3"), though ornamental styles may require a larger minimum size.
Underlay: Various underlay options are available, including center walk, edge walk, and zig-zag.
Kerning: Automatic and manual kerning of characters.
Connections: Multiple types of character connections, such as nearest point and floating stitches.
Tie-Ups: Automatic tie-ups are applied before and after floating stitches.
Serifs: Automatic simplification of serifs for small-scale lettering.
Settings: Automatic parameters and underlays tailored to various letter sizes.
Arching: Text arching capabilities. Text can be placed on predefined paths (circles, lines, waves, etc.) with variable parameters, or users may define a custom path.
Individual Glyphs Editing: Editing capabilities for inter-character spacing, path size, text size, and underlay types.
Envelope: Integrated envelope functions for advanced shaping.
Automatic simplification of serifs on small characters - using a single stitch instead of satin stitches.
In summary, while the Font Engine provides a vast quantity of options (thousands of fonts), Embird Alphabets emphasize quality and precision for specific embroidery styles. Many users utilize high-quality alphabets for standard production and reserve the Font Engine for unique or custom branding requirements.
